5 Reasons Why You Need to Upgrade to Windows 8.1 Right Now

Since Microsoft rolled out the free Windows 8.1 update for Windows 8 users, I've not been able to download and install the update via Windows Store due to bad and slow internet connection, but recently at the Bloggers Lab End of the year Meet-up, Olayinka Oladele gave me a downloaded setup of the Windows 8.1 and I installed it on my PC. Since then I've been enjoying my Windows 8.1 not only because of the Start button that is back but because of other additional features too, which I will like to share with everyone tonight. Sit back and relax as we go through the main 5 reasons why you really need to update your Windows 8 to Windows 8.1.

Better Multi-Tasking Ability

Multi-Window Feature on Windows 8.1

The ability to have multiple app screens open simultaneously which is referred to as Snap is a great idea, but it was not really cool in Windows 8 because of how it limits the ability to run multiple app screens to just two windows. But with Windows 8.1, you can re-size the smaller window to virtually any size with just a finger swipe on touchscreen devices or with just a simple mouse movement on non-touchscreen PCs. If you have a large high-resolution monitor, you'll be able to have multiple windows which means that you can chat on Skype, check the temperature in London and still view the Latest Tech Updates on StevenBergy.Com.Ng, all on the same screen without minimizing.

Live Tiles - Large, Wide, Medium & Small

If you are very familiar with Windows 8, you will notice that the Live Tiles on the Start Screen comes in only two sizes, which is a rectangle and a square but on Windows 8.1, your Live Tiles can now be displayed in Four different Sizes - Large, Wide, Medium and Small. The Large Tile is useful for displaying information on Apps like Weather, Calendar, Travel etc.. The Wide Tiles doesn't mind displaying info for Apps you use regularly while the other smaller sized tiles are good for displaying the Apps you don't use often. Anyways, just customize it to your taste.

Simple Search - Satisfactory Result

One of the most convenient features of Windows 8 is its ease of search: Just start typing from the Start screen and you can search for settings, content, apps, files or even stuff on the web. Windows 8.1 takes this to a new level with Smart Search, powered by Bing. Now if you search for a subject, an historic-place or a musician e.g. 'Lady Gaga', a visually-driven page that will call up basic facts, photos, a map (if applicable) and relevant links will be shown which thereby brings Searching for information and getting satisfactory results at your fingertip.

Dynamic Lock Screen

The lock screen images on Windows 8 devices are always static but the lock screen image on Windows 8.1 devices doesn't have to be static anymore. There's now the option to play a slideshow, which can pull photos from various folders including whatever you've got in your SkyDrive. In addition to this, you can choose to get calendar alerts, email notifications and even pick Skype calls without unlocking your device.

Get the Official Windows Facebook App

I'm on Facebook and chances are you're also on Facebook and I guess you interact with your Facebook Friends, Pages and Groups via Apps. If you upgrade to Windows 8.1, you'll be able to run the official Facebook app for Windows, which provides a sweeter experience for PCs. Although, I noticed the Facebook App doesn't appear when you use the Share feature from another app but the Facebook App's response is fast and the interface encourages you to explore parts of Facebook you've not been using.

    1. Oooh, Thanks for the comment Sammy but I live very far from Abuja. I live in Ibadan so i guess its impossible to get a copy of windows 8.1 to you but I will post a better way of getting it ASAP. You will have to download it with IDM so that it resumes from where it stops whenever you have bad or slow internet connection. I think is better that way, right ? Stay Tuned
