The idea of making a Smartphone convert to a laptop is not new, we've seen it several times and even more recently on the Windows 10 OS with Continuum. On the Android side, converting an Android phone to a Laptop has never been executed terribly well. An example is that of the Asus Padfone X which was okay as a phone and okay as a tablet but didn't add much as a laptop. Now, the latest to take on the challenge is the Superbook which will soon launch as a Kickstarter project.
The Superbook is a plug-and-play device that turns your Android smartphone into a beautiful laptop. You just have to connect your Smartphone to any Superbook via either a micro-USB or USB-C cable and get the same computing experience no matter where you go. With an 11.6-inch display featuring a resolution of 1366 x 768, a keyboard, multi-touch trackpad and a battery, the Superbook makes working on the move easier. The real magic behind the connection of your Android phone to the Superbook is done by the Andromium OS app*, which you'll install on your phone and it will automatically create the desktop environment with multi-window support.
*Andromium OS will work with any device running Android 4.4.2 KitKat or higher, but the developer does recommend having a Snapdragon 800 SoC and at least 2GB of RAM.
Technically, you don't need the Superbook simply because you can use any compatible hardware dock that connects to a monitor and USB mouse/keyboard, or you can even use the Andromium OS app with a Chromecast. However, if you don't want to go through all that stress, you can opt-in for the Superbook for just $99 (will be available soon via Kickstarter).
